While I was away....

I decided to give Den a call to say hi and talk to the kids....

Me: Hi!

Den:.......hi

Me: Where are you?

Den: the ER

Me: Are you joking?

Den...uh, no

Isn't this the conversation every mom dreams of having with her husband while she's out of town? Ugh. So Den took the kids down to his parents Sunday morning and my daughter immediately went to look for kitties to pet. This time she got a hold of a fluffy grey one which usually runs at the sight of little girls with grabby hands. Why was he so compliant this time? First cousin Ella held him, then my E. Then the cat bit her. A nice hard and deep chomp on the arm. The surrounding adults cleaned and bandaged the wound, comforted the girl and went on with the day. Then a few hours later they saw a dead cat. This dead cat was the same cat that bit E. Now it was obvious that it's semi-compliance was due to it being sick. So Dennis bagged the cat, put E in the car and with his sister the RN by his side headed to the emergency room. This is where I come in, however my role is simply anxiety and prayer from miles away. I'm told that she was a very brave girl, no tears and only charm for the doctors and nurses. They cleaned and bandaged her arm again and then gave Dennis instructions about the cat. Thank goodness he kept it or they would have had to start her on a series of rabies shots STAT. (is that the correct usage of STAT?) E went home with Denise(sister/RN) while Den went back to our place to behead the cat. Yes, cut off it's head. How you may ask? With a shovel, and it took longer than one would like and then he had to dispose of the body...matches were involved. Next was a drive at 10pm to a place that would test the cat head for rabies and Den claims he never would have found it had he not borrowed his sister's GPS. What a night....what a wait. BUT, praise the Lord, no rabies. Just a nasty bite and some antibiotics. Have I mentioned that my husband is my hero?

You would think that my daughter would now be leery of felines. However, the first day I'm back I'm willing to to something extra fun and sort of a hassle since I missed her so. A paint by number kitty from a kit my mom got her. On the bottom she asked me to write "E loves cats."
and she named the cat "sila". She informed me that she loves kitties, just not kitties that bite.

Atlanta

Last night I returned from an annual trip to visit with four girls that I went to Bible school with 11 years ago. This year a fifth came along, TINA!! I was so glad to have a traveling buddy.

V was glad too.

He was thrilled to have someone else chew his finger for a while.

Our fabulous hosts...Laurie and Jonathan (also affectionately called JB amongst us)

Hostess#2 Elise...we had fun playing in the scarves in their terrific toy room/basement.

Hostess#3 Audrey wanted to join in on the fun as well.

We all had kids this trip... meet Evangeline, Elicia's 2nd child and first daughter.

This is Maggie (suz's daughter) sporting an apron I made for her. I attempted to call her maggie may, but she looked at me and said "I maggie GRACE". What pre-2 year old processes like that? She was so much fun.

Elise showing a baby blanket I made for her, when she opened it she ran and got a baby for it right away. She was such a sweet girl.

La was a busy chef, making us the best meals.

V was a happy guy the whole time..if you don't count waking up at least 3-4 times each night.

traveling pals, Tina and Mia

Target was the big outing for us, besides visiting la's church on Sunday morn.

from oldest to youngest

the babies

brought home a pretty necklace

we have this thing about bringing each other treats...lots of handmade goodies this year, and La shared some new music with us, I always look forward to that

presently....

It was a great trip, low key...surprisingly not hectic at all in my opinion considering all the kiddos this year. Always good to reconnect in person with these women. They refresh me and I love them.

Firehouse Field Trip

It would be redundant of me to say where E's field trip was today. I think you can figure it out. V and I tagged along as chaperon/driver and enjoyed watching the kids go on a scavenger hunt and even hold the water hose.

They discussed fire safety and were asked to press the button on a smoke alarm so they would know what it sounded like. The real reason I put in this pic is because of the suave little guy in the flight jacket next to E. This is Andrew. Perhaps you have heard of him as my daughter (since last year and it hasn't changed) tells people that she is going to marry him when she grows up. Honestly, I don't encourage this by asking her about it or suggesting it. This is on her own. But he is cute.

He loves standing by the bath, hoping to get in. He was peeking around the corner at me.

dance dance

Honestly, I don't want her to be a welder by day exotic dancer by night(Flashdance, for those of you who are lost), just vicariously fulling my desire to wear leg warmers! Ballet started on Wed.

shame on me, I know.

He LOVES our bed, he gets excited and buries his face in it, this time he was extra pumped and squeally.

all the way to the top

Dennis followed him the whole way up the stairs. Now it's his favorite place to sneak off to.

more fair and more etc...

Yep, another country fair... I went one morning with Mindy and Tina and her two little ones. The kids were so good as we wandered and visited. The event was ended with the sharing of super fresh and warm funnel cakes, and a 50cent cup of warm cider. yum

Herr's always gives out free snacks! Sweet Owen wanted to hold E's hand all the time. Unfortunately E is not the touchy feely type. She's more like her dad. She held it for a bit, but I'm afraid she might have hurt Owen's feelings at one point.

This time it was my son trying to hold on to Tina's daughter, Mia.

mia

Seeing the chicks are probably the highlight of this fair. Except this year you had to hold them over the tray, which made it a bit crowded.

check out this peep's expression...e could have loved this thing to death

Owen was a little more cautious.

Mindy was such a help with the kiddos, we love any chance we have to spend with her before she leaves for Germany!

I love these jammies, they were hand me downs when Jesse wore them. But in my gusto I ripped them when I took them off V!

J is serious about the game of Life.

uh huh...I don't want to talk about it

This is for you Elicia!! E is wore this for the first time, a gift from Elicia years ago, all the way from Turkey...or was it Morocco? Anyway, she had told me that toddlers wore them as dresses, but only now will it fit and stay on her shoulders. LOVE IT!

Dennis likes to put our children in baskets.

Baby legs are back.

The boy loves loves soft things.

So I know every mom thinks their kids are beautiful, but I think we can all agree that I'm not just being biased.
